Below is the article by CNBC:
After a season in which he won the Heisman Trophy and BCS National Championship, the good news continues to roll in for Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. According to a report from CNBC's Darren Rovell, Newton has signed an exclusive endorsement deal with Under Armour. Financial specifics are currently unknown, but the deal is rumored to be the largest for an incoming rookie in NFL history, surpassing the $1 million adidas gave Reggie Bush in 2006.
Per terms of the agreement, Under Armour will release a collection of Cam Newton Auburn merchandise, including jerseys that bear his name, training gear and a signature shoe line. Newton also spent the past season wearing Under Armour gear at Auburn University, which is locked in a multi-year endorsement deal with the brand as well.
As you'd expect, negotiations came down to Under Armour and Nike, who wanted to use Newton's services to promote their upcoming exclusive NFL apparel licensing agreement. Under Armour was reportedly more willing to give Newton more guarantees regarding his marketing future.
With Under Armour set to officially launch their Charged Cotton apparel collection next month, news of Cam's signing is right on time. Joining NFL athletes like Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, Miles Austin, Anquan Boldin and Peyton Hillis, is the signing of Cam Newton another step in the right direction for Under Armour? Does he have what it takes to succeed on the pro level?
