The Slam Dunk Contest 2011

All-star weekend was in full effect in Los Angeles this past weekend.  The NBA did a good job this year and put on an entertaining show.  The slam dunk contest was not a let down as it has been a few times in the past decade.  We came into it already knowing the winner because Blake Griffin has not been comparable to anyone on the court when it comes to in-air antics.  The combination of ease and force he uses to jam hasn't been seen since Shawn Kemp (any arguments?).  Everybody basically just wanted to see how he was going to win it.

The first round of the SDC was the best first round in my opinion since the 2000 contest.  The contest went downhill from there though.  DeRozan got robbed of his opportunity to compete in the final round and Ibaka had a decent presentation with a creative dunk too.  I guess somebody had to lose because you can't discredit McGee's two balls, two rims dunk (which I think was the best dunk of the night), and Griffin's emphatic reverse 360 maneuver.  Griffin and McGee were the finalist and in the end Griffin was the one who held up the trophy thanks to his theatrics of bringing out a car and a choir for his final dunk.  Griffin's final dunk was not in the least bit impressive.  He does better stuff during actual games.  Him jumping over the the hood of a sedan is not pushing his physical limits.  I understand there is a safety issue but c'mon, the dunk was so standard.  I have several friends that can do similar.  But between McGee and Griffin, Griffin was clearly the better choice.  Hence why I say DeRozan was robbed.

Best dunk of the night -- DeVale McGee
With all that said, Griffin's missed dunks were the best things of the night.  That boy has something special and I hope he decides to come back for next year's competition.  I think the greatest thing about the contest was, the players presented us with a couple of dunks that have never been seen.  We thought the bounds had been reached but clearly there are still moves that have yet to be tapped.  Good weekend, NBA.  Now let's not have a lockout.

The Winner of the OG Raunchy Contest

A couple of days ago we ran an impromptu contest.  It was simple, be the first to post a NEW pic of you IN an OG Raunchy shirt.  Well the first person to comply with the rules was Brian Dixon.  His shirt was designed in Dec. 2004 or Jan. 2005, can't pinpoint the actual date.  It was good seeing that he and others have still held on to their shirts after all this time.  Thanks guys for all the support.  Brian, your free shirt was sent today.  Enjoy.  The winning pic below:

OG Raunchy Shirt Contest

I have a feeling this is gonna end quick but let's give it a go anyway.  Raunchy started in 2004 and the original medium was hand painting.  Several mediums were later incorporated into the production of the original Raunchy shirts. Here are a few examples of the OGs:

Here's the deal.  The first person that leaves a link to a new pic of them IN an OG Raunchy shirt gets a brand new one for free.  That's it, that simple, let's go.

Under Armour Signs Cam Newton to Record Rookie Endorsement Deal

Most of you know I am an Alum of Auburn University.  What the school accomplished this past football season is a big deal, and it's mostly thanks to this man, Cam Newton.  He's a gifted athlete and I wish much success as he moves forward.  It doesn't get easier, but I think he knows that.  Cam now has another notch to add to his belt.  He now has the highest paid rookie endorsement contract ever in the NFL.  It surprised me the record is so low, but I guess football isn't like basketball.  Congrats fam.

Below is the article by CNBC:

After a season in which he won the Heisman Trophy and BCS National Championship, the good news continues to roll in for Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. According to a report from CNBC's Darren Rovell, Newton has signed an exclusive endorsement deal with Under Armour. Financial specifics are currently unknown, but the deal is rumored to be the largest for an incoming rookie in NFL history, surpassing the $1 million adidas gave Reggie Bush in 2006.
Per terms of the agreement, Under Armour will release a collection of Cam Newton Auburn merchandise, including jerseys that bear his name, training gear and a signature shoe line. Newton also spent the past season wearing Under Armour gear at Auburn University, which is locked in a multi-year endorsement deal with the brand as well.
As you'd expect, negotiations came down to Under Armour and Nike, who wanted to use Newton's services to promote their upcoming exclusive NFL apparel licensing agreement. Under Armour was reportedly more willing to give Newton more guarantees regarding his marketing future.
With Under Armour set to officially launch their Charged Cotton apparel collection next month, news of Cam's signing is right on time. Joining NFL athletes like Tom Brady, Ray Lewis, Miles Austin, Anquan Boldin and Peyton Hillis, is the signing of Cam Newton another step in the right direction for Under Armour? Does he have what it takes to succeed on the pro level?

The Highly Coveted Foamposites Release Today

I remember being in Jr. High when the Nike Air Foamposites originally released, and thinking how hideous they were. Add the price tag to it, and it was an easy decision for a 7th grader to pass on the shoes.  It took me about 10 years to acquire my love for these sneakers.  Well, Nike is taking its third lap with this colorway and store shelves will be blank a few hours after I post this.  These are a must have.
